The subject of our discussion this week Florence is one of the legends of nursing and it can be safely stated that if it were not for her initiatives, nursing as a discipline might not be today where it is. From the experience of being a student, I heard about Nightingale’s interventions because so much was said about her work. After taking this week’s lessons, I have learned that I was only partly informed regarding the things that she did, some of the works that I was informed about were that she was the founder of modern nursing education and that she started the world’s initial nursing school. Nightingale played a very significant role towards the establishment of modern nursing profession. This made her argue that for nurses to be in position to offer quality patient-based care, the had to be trained and have formal education in that. She practiced by founding the Nightingale Training School for Nurses in the year 1860, situated at St. Thomas’ hospital in London which later developed to be the initially secular nursing school in the globe.
