Suppose that you have two sets of data. The first set is a list of all the injuries that were seen in a clinic in a month’s time. The second set contains data on the number of minutes that each patient spent in the waiting room of a doctor’s office. You can make assumptions about other information or variables that are included in each data set.

For each data set, propose your idea of how best to represent the key information.  

  1. To organize your data, would you choose to use a frequency table, a cumulative frequency table, or a relative frequency table? Why?
  2. What type of graph would you use to display the organized data from each frequency distribution? What would be shown on each of the axes for each graph?

Injuries Seen in a Clinic in a Month

For the list of all injuries seen in a clinic within a month, I would use a relative frequency table. This type of table will provide a clear understanding of how often each type of injury occurs relative to the total number of injuries. This method is particularly useful because it allows for easy comparison between different types of injuries, highlighting which injuries are most and least common.

To display the organized data from the relative frequency table, I would use a bar graph with the following axis,

  • X-axis: This would represent the different types of injuries (e.g., fractures, sprains, cuts, etc.).
  • Y-axis: This would represent the relative frequency (percentage) of each injury type.

A bar graph is effective here because it visually separates the categories of injuries and allows for easy comparison of their frequencies (john, 2019)…
