For this Discussion, you will examine the value of motivation and emotional intelligence for individuals and how they impact situations in the workplace.

Note: By Monday of this week, your Instructor should provide you with a case study that you will use for this Discussion, as well as future assignments throughout this course.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the case study provided by your Instructor.
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You are a healthcare consultant with a thriving practice working with the hospital(s) related to your assigned case study. Your expertise is in organizational design and organizational behavior.
  • Consider the organizational change that is occurring in your assigned case study and who the key players are in addressing it. What role will emotional intelligence play in the way that the change is handled? Consider an example of a key player’s leadership.

Post your recommended strategy to increase motivation and positive outcomes. In doing so, address factors of organization change and defend the value of emotional intelligence in addressing organizational change. Be sure to include the following:

  • Briefly describe the change facing the organization in your assigned case study and which leaders in the case study are involved in addressing it.
  • From your personal perspective and/or experience, defend the value of emotional intelligence for the organizational leaders who are engaged in addressing the organizational change.
    • Include an example of how the application of emotional intelligence by one of the leaders you identified will impact the outcome.
  • Then, recommend at least one strategy (including specific steps) your selected leader might use to motivate the employees impacted by the change and create a positive outcome for the organization.

Support your response by identifying and explaining key points and/or examples presented in the Learning Resources.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings. Consider how your colleagues’ postings relate to the information presented in the Learning Resources and to your own posting.

Refer to the Week 2 Discussion Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this grading rubric to assess your work.
